About Us

The Craig Bellamy Foundation (CBF) is a charity that offers underprivileged children in Sierra Leone the chance to reach their true potential through sport and education, enabling them to build a better life for themselves and their communities.

How We Work

The CBF League was launched in 2009 with support from UNICEF. Using football to empower a new generation to bring about positive change we focus on increasing school attendance and respect for fair play, whilst delivering community development projects. Involving more than 2,000 boys and girls around the country the CBF League is having a considerable impact.

The CBF Academy opened its doors in August 2010. We recruit some of Africa’s most talented young athletes and work with them to produce football players who are well-rounded, inspirational role models. Five-year scholarships are given to children aged 11-13 who live, study and train at its state-of-the-art facilities.

A central feature of all of our work is improving governance. We advocate for an end to over-age player selection in youth football and an end to violence and corruption associated with football. We also campaign to prevent the exploitation of young African footballers, while supporting the Sierra Leone FA and Ministry of Sport to improve governance in sport.
